Counterscale - New Analytics Service that Hugo sites can use

Counterscale is a simple web analytics tracker and dashboard that you self-host on Cloudflare.

It’s designed to be easy to deploy and maintain, and should cost you near-zero to operate – even at high levels of traffic (Cloudflare’s free tier could hypothetically support up to 100k hits/day).

(Remember to download the assets from the release page before running the terminal commands).

I have been using this for a while. Very good analytics solution for basic stats and still in active development for a beta project.

How does it compare to the free Cloudflare Web Analytics?

Still 90 days data limit, but this project uses Cloudflare Workers. I personally chose it over Cloudflare Web Analytics since the dashboard is easier to navigate. I am not knowledgeable enough to compare the two. But you can roll it out and test with your project.

But also note that since it is in beta, some things are bound to break now and then. e.g recently, the country data was messed up for a week or two but was fixed. Hence using in production is a choice to make personally.

I also find the dashboard easier to navigate. And apparently you can use a custom domain, so if my website is https://physichemically.com/ the associated analytics could be found in analytics.physichemically.com, which seems quite convenient too. I’ll definitely give it a try. Thanks!

I am using Google Analytics.

Are those new analytics services really better ?
If yes what does make them better ?

@Cloud-Forge I think your questions are out of topic and something like a quick online search e.g on GA alternatives will answer your questions.

Just remember to whitelist the subdomain in your Content Security Policy e.g in script-src.

I don’t think my questions are out of topic
look closely at the title of this post

Counterscale - New Analytics Service that Hugo sites can use

Since we have established that the subject of the post is new Analytics services for HUGO
And that I am simply asking whether these are better than the one I am using.

I don’t think that I am that far off, “topic wise” .

Ultimately, my very much on topic question was more addressed to the post’s author @stoic and not specially to you, a specialist in internet search

This post from the author explains better what Counterscale is. Here you can also find comments about the service.

@tyco I’ve successfully set up Counterscale for my 3 sites that are connected via Hugo Multihost, but I’m also seeing counterscale-dev. Any way to remove it from my list of sites?

Thank you very much in advance!

That is installed by design by the Counterscale dev/maintainer to show you your dashboard visits as a test before visits are recorded for your other projects. If you feel strongly about it, you can request in the project issues for that to be omitted.

Thanks! I wasn’t sure if I was missing something. I get it’s a good thing to check if the dashboard works but once you’ve added your sites it could be removed. I will suggest that.
