Universal Theme looks good in server mode but not when using public data

I want to use the Universal theme for a homepage. Using Hugo server yields a nice looking example site on my development computer. But when I try to upload the public directory content after letting it build with Hugo I get some weird broken output:

What did I do wrong?

With an error message like “weird broken output” and “sharing broken link” there’s not much what we can do to help.

most common issues for your symptoms.

  • configuration issues (mostly wrong baseURL in config
  • theme configuration errors
  • your public folder has been created with hugo server => use only hugo
  • upload problems
  • missconfiguration of your hosting service

as usual sharing your source repo is the easiest way for us to check what’s going on.
