Theme quality varies. Rankings, Github activity, etc. needed to make experience less frustrating

Most themes are pretty good, but the quality does seem to vary a bit. I suspect that some people develop a theme so they can put it in their CV, and then promptly abandon it once they’re hired. This wouldn’t be too much of an issue except for the fact that there’s no way to discern between good quality, actively maintained themes and lesser quality themes, without checking each Github repo. Wouldn’t it make sense to add some kind of rating system plus Github stats to the themes page so we have a better overview?

FWIW, I have something like that, currently with the focus on filtering by tags, Hugo version, license, and github stars, sortable by date updated, stars, and name.

Looks like a good start. The top-starred page is also pretty useful.
