For a Git-LFS repo only downloading full image if resource needs updating

I’m posting here first to see if this is even a possibility before doing a feature request issue (or if this can already be done and I just don’t know it).

Basically I love page bundles, except that managing binaries in the bundles is a bit of a pain. I’d like to be able to pull repos (or do a GitHub Action, GitLab pipeline, or other non-Netlify-centric option) without doing a full LFS checkout (that is only keep the references when checking out), but if the resource cache has changed or image processing is needed again, pulling the actual image / binary from LFS at the time it is needed (and only for the binaries where it is needed).

Is this a thing I’ve missed or a thing that is possible, or neither?
