Combining Wordpress and Hugo?

I am interested in combining Wordpress and Hugo

Originally I was going to use only Wordpress simply because of the number plugins available. Its going to be a bit more than a personal blog, so i need CMS capabilities.

However I would also like to somehow use static site ability because I like the ability to write posts in static files.

Is there a way of combining Wordpress and hugo perhaps using the Wordpress REST API??

Wordpress gives me a rash.

But there are plugins that sync a git repo. Like https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-github-sync/
