[v0.151.0] hugo server stops with error

Hi. I’ use Hugo on Debian Sid.

My hugo env is:

 hugo env
hugo v0.151.0+extended linux/amd64 BuildDate=2025-10-04T08:21:33Z VendorInfo=debian:0.151.0-1

GOVERSION="go1.24.7"

When I start hugo server, it stops with this errors messages:

$ hugo server

Using a grep search results actually with 0 result!
(grep -R “.Site.Author” * or grep -R “Site.Author” *)

Any idea/suggestion?
Or, Hugo stops about another issue? I dont understand.

you have that one: config/_default/author.yaml which maps to the deprecated site.Author toplevel parameter.

and you have a theme referenced as a submodule in your repo, but when I clone I miss a .gitmodules

If you have the theme , it might be somewhere inside that code.

I would use grep -iR to search case insensitive :wink:

update: and omit the leading dot grep -iR "site.author"

hope that helps, if not, please fix up your submodule and push the changes

no way to get the theme for me… I can see something in GitLab WebView but looks like this is somehow unpublished

Uhhh, terrible; I never imagined that the presence of this file would cause me so much trouble. After deleting-it, Hugo starts!

(and good idea to use the -i option when using grep) :wink:

About theme referenced, it’s on oldier test about trying Gemini and Gopher publications, but not functional. I deleted all files, and I forgot about it. Solved.
