Are there any very useful/essential front matter you guys use for you Hugo sites?
It mostly depends on the theme you use. Default ones are listed in the documentation, I don’t use more than half of them.
I recommend checking the file archetypes/default.md
from the theme you’d like to use, you can sometime get an idea of the supported front matter / metadata / features

This! And also depending on your site’s or theme’s requirements, you can add more. But things like title
, lastmod
, slug
or url
, date
, description
and summary
can be good, especially to populate things like SEO metadata. Others like tags
or keywords
, or authors
for a multi-author site…the choice is unlimited.
