I’ve been working on this site for about 18 months now. I took over a site for a chap who was dying and has since passed, and although the site contained a lot of very good information and pictures, it was hard to navigate and even harder to maintain, having been written over a period of more than a decade with Frontpage (Did you just shiver?)
So I started to think that perhaps a new website would be more suited. I’d tried Jeckyll before for a small site, and quite liked the idea of SSGs, not least because I could host it for free and know it would be secure. I must say I’ve really enjoyed working with Hugo and learning as I go.
The site is https://dartmoorwalking.org/
Because of the nature of how I got the original site, I couldn’t help but ponder my own mortality. So the source is also publically available over at GitHub - digdilem/dartmoorwalking.org: Website and code for dartmoorwalking.org · GitHub with a fairly unique licence that it can be copied if I ever croak it myself.
I hope you like it. I opened it up over Christmas 2024 and it’s doing reasonable numbers, and is hosted on Cloudflare Pages.
