OT: Flowing text and images side-by-side

Here’s my effort using a slightly modified Ananke theme:

I’m using tables in _index.md:

With very short text you get a big image. As you add more text, it splits across lines and the image gets very small.

Is there a way to adjust the split between image and text, e.g. by overriding styles? I’m a CSS newbie, I’ve made a few tweaks to the Tachyons codes used to change text and margin styles but unsure how to go forward here.
