i’ve been using orgmode for a couple of years now to do my pages and it has been fine. (i don’t use ox-hugo or stuff like that.)
i’ve never given markdown a try though. i have no problem switching because i think i can use pandoc to convert my org files to md and emacs support for it is pretty good.
does hugo prefer working with md to org? are there advantages to changing from org to md?
If I had to guess, I would say that more than 99% of Hugo content worldwide is Markdown. Consequently, of the 6 supported content formats, it is reasonable to assume that Markdown gets most of the attention. Like any other project, commercial or open-source, resources are applied to optimize returns.
I am not an Emacs user, but my understanding is that Org Mode is flexible and powerful, so what I think of as Markdown advantages may be easily accomplished in Org Mode as well. Regardless, these are a few of the potential advantages that came to mind:
The last item is inarguable. Markdown has become ubiquitous, serving as the primary content format for many applications and services including GitHub, GitLab, Obsidian, Typora, Joplin, VS Code, etc.
