Pagination doesn't work on my homepage

I am in hugo V-0.53
I have a problem that I can’t seem to solve. I build a blog, I used the theme “story” and this is how my folders are: folders-hugo

Inside my folder “content” I have a folder “journal” and after that many folders for each years of posts. In each year folder I have articles as .md files.

But my problem is, that the pagination on my index page (which is the same code than my list.html page) doesn’t work. When I try I arrive at a 404 page at the link “/page/2/” but it works if i change the link by “/journal/page/2/”. I don’t know why I can’t operate the pagination for my homepage.
