Keep a specific folder in /public from purging

I wonder if it’s possible to keep a specific folder untouched when Hugo regenerates /public?

I have my main site done with Hugo and I want to have a /public/things with Hugo unrelated dirs/files that I could access through Caddy server’s directory listing. What happens now is that when I restart the server, /things gets removed.

If you put your extra file/folder structure under /static, anything there gets copied unchanged unto /public when the site is [re]built.
