.jpg vs .jpeg in image render hooks

I haven’t tested this beyond the image render hook, but with page resources like this

sunset.jpg
sunset.fr.jpeg

and in markdown for both languages

![sunset](sunset.jpg)

The second image fails to show up, instead replaced by the first one. Does Hugo consider .jpg and .jpeg as different extensions?

Yes, it does.
