How to keep inner text unchanged in markdown?

@bep, I think I am still not understanding how to get the old behavior or is there something I need to do to make sure the inner content of a does not change in a markdown file. I am not using shortcode.

How to leave inner text unchanged?

I am trying to update from 0.48.x to 0.55.0. The reason I try to update Hugo version is because one time I did not update for 1 yr and then the site will not compile when we wanted some the new features of Hugo. The more general question is should the inner text of a <textarea> in a markdown file be compiled into HTML or should it be left as-is. What is the right behavior of Hugo and was this changed intentionally? If yes, was there any test case or reason for this?

As I mentioned in the original issue, this behavior seem to have changed between 0.49.0 and 0.50.0. I have skimmed at the release notes for both 0.50.0 and 0.55.0 and nothing jumps at me. Do you have any idea what is the correct rendering behavior?
