Is there hope that this issue will be resolved? Or a workaround for now?

@bep web.dev is throwing this error now on SEO score (I scored 100 before, now 92)

Document does not have a valid `rel=canonical`

Points to the domain's root URL (the homepage), instead of an equivalent page of content
