For my blog the home page is a list, and I have pagination at the bottom, set to show 5 posts per page.
How do I make an item show only on the first page of home, but not /page/2/ …?

(if on Home page 1) - - the main page is a list page

I have tried using .Paginator.PageNumber but keep getting an error saying it has already been made.
That means what it says. You need to fix that.
