Academic Theme: Add "featured media" on homepage

Hey! Sorry, I didn’t know whether to post this on Discord or here so I posted it to both. I was drawn to Academic because I like how it handles publications – a few featured publications on the homepage and a link to a longer list of publications:

I’m hoping to do the same thing with the “media” section of the page. So far, I have way too many media boxes on the homepage, and I want to keep, say, 3 on the homepage as “featured media” and move the rest to a separate longer list. Has anyone else done something like this and, if so, could you point me to instructions?
