Page Not Rendered post 0.161.0

As of v0.161.0, a page on my site no longer renders. It previously rendered as /about, but now it’s at /1/01/about-just-a-theory/index.html. I presume it’s due to the new permalink configuration, so I tried adding this to my config below the existing permalinks section:

[[permalinks]]
pattern = "/about"
[permalinks.target]
kind = "about"

But it makes no difference. This kind of page has a single page template (it’s not a section so not a list page) so I thought this would work, but I don’t really grok the permalinks syntax.

How can I restore this page to its proper URL?

Thanks!

Targeting the ‘path’ works fine. Order is important, first match wins.

[[permalinks]]
  pattern = '/about/'
  [permalinks.target]
    path = '/about'
[[permalinks]]
  pattern = '/:year/:month/:slug/'
  [permalinks.target]
    kind = "{section,page}"

Hints:

  • your about page is of ‘kind’ page (the type is something different)

  • targeting permalinks by ‘type’ would be undocumented (and does not work for your case)

  • You use a 0.151.0 feature permalink arrays with the old template system(pre 0.146.0) new template system 146+ - might not be a good idea on the long run

  • Your keys page also uses type=about

  • on my windows 11 box slug: dv-uploading... and the filename dv-uploading....md fails

  • Thank you, I’d forgotten that the config file used top-to-bottom precedence. Your suggestion works, of course.
  • Yes, I always forget to say “kind” instead of “type”; I’m not so immersed in the terminology.
  • It uses type=about because, ISTR, I defined it as a type so it would have its own template. Maybe it pre-dates the adoption of “kind” (originally implemented in 2018)?
  • I put off changing template order once I fixed what was broken in 0.146. Will have to find some TUITs to adjust
  • Huh, I get no error for that file on macOS (Hugo v0.166.0) or the Linux runner that builds the site. What’s the error?

A windows issue, It silently drops trailing dots on both directories and files :wink:
if all in your chain is *nix based and you don’t hand over to windows users not an issue. I did not test what happens if a user tries to save/download such files from a browser or open s it …

anyhow I would avoid anything special for the main OSes out there.

Oh I see, thanks. Old migration and I didn’t realize I’d put those characters in the slug. Fixed.
