# Inspiration for new themes

The numbers of Hugo themes is increasing week by week. Over the time I created a list of high quality themes that would be a good fit for the Hugo community.

On of the best way to get familiar a new tool is learning by doing - Hugo is not different. While porting or creating a new theme you’ll learn the concepts and capabilities of Hugo.

I tried to sort the themes in categories based on the use case:

@digitalcraftsman I’m almost done with the Story theme and will try to have it uploaded to the theme directory by the end of the weekend.

I appreciate it’s a free theme from [freehtml5.co](http://freehtml5.co), but the source for the design was pretty shi&^%, so I’m reworking a lot of it, improving the semantics, etc.

[I’ve published what I have so far to Netlify](https://hugo-story.netlify.com/).

Here is [repo as well](https://github.com/rdwatters/hugo-story).

I’ve also added the following:

- [Copyable code blocks](https://hugo-story.netlify.com/windows-of-dreaming/)
- Support for taxonomies ([just “categories” for now on the demo](https://hugo-story.netlify.com/categories/web-development/), and I still need to create `_default/terms.html`)
- [Featherlight image modal](https://hugo-story.netlify.com/becoming-a-better-web-developer/)
- Better typography (in my opinion), including configurable OS fonts (Thanks, @Hash_Borgir)
- [A whole slew of SEO partials](https://github.com/rdwatters/hugo-story/tree/master/themes/hugos-story/layouts/partials/head)

I’m open to any other features if anyone has suggestions. Any request from the above list, @bep? LMK. Cheers.

- support for Disqus comments
- perhaps i18n support (could also be done in a later version)
- an [option to link custom assets](https://discuss.gohugo.io/t/how-to-override-css-classes-with-hugo/3033/4?u=digitalcraftsman) (JS and CSS)

When I’m copying a code block I noticed that your theme also opens an empty modal. They look like the Featherlight modals.

Done. (This also made me realize that I forgot to add my separate Google Analytics partials, which is now good to go, so thanks! 😄).

Fixed. Done.

Still need to make the `terms.html` page, but that should be pretty simple. Now I want to break this down into a lot more partials and maybe add some more shortcodes. Thanks for the quick UAT @digitalcraftsman

Hi,  
I have tried for my blog to port a hexo theme [cactus-dark](https://github.com/probberechts/cactus-dark) to hugo but i never succeeded 😕 (I’m not a dev)

Has anyone tried to port Minimal Mistakes (Jekyll theme) suggested above to Hugo?

Currently using [DocDock](https://github.com/vjeantet/hugo-theme-docdock), which is also great.

That’s a really cool site, @alexandros Thanks for sharing this. I could see it being a really vexing experience for content-heavy sites, but for something like a design agency, this definitely falls into the never-seen-a-site-quite-like-this-before category…

wow, that’s stellar @alexandros. Love the ascii art in the source, from BONG. Love how resizing to mobile works, too. Wow.
