# I'm missing concepts / theory of operation

I’m a webdev, and programmer, so I get the general idea behind Hugo, but I’m missing some basic concepts, or maybe the theory of operation.
I have a functional site, but would like to understand more, because every time I want to make a change, I’m lost.
_I’m reading docs and tutorials_, but feel like I’m getting the big picture on a piece-by-piece basis.
Any suggested reading?
For example, when `hugo` runs, is it reading everything in `content` and trying to marry each with a template? (EDIT: yes)
