Perhaps the title should be is there a way to prevent this?
(I had hoped a touch of irony would bring wry smiles, but re-reading it perhaps this was too optimistic; ah well. 
)
I spent a while crashing my laptop and doing reboots and eventually found this was the reason. I hope the information is useful.
One way would be to not sending a gigantic object graph into jsonify.
